Director, Northern and Native Child Health Program, MUHC
Johanne Morel started her career as a general practitioner with the Cree of James Bay. Fascinated by what the Cree people had taught her, she decided to find a specialty that would allow her to return to James Bay regularly. She opted for pediatrics and, after completing the residency program, resumed her travels to the Cree territory, Eeyou Istchee, now as a consultant pediatrician. Soon afterwards she was invited to become a consultant in Nunavik as well. For decades now, she has been traveling regularly to the North of Québec serving the Cree and Inuit populations. When not up North, she mainly works for the Northern children from her base at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
