Cathy Bachner, BA.Sc, B.Ed, contracted life-threatening necrotizing fasciitis in 2012 and encountered a complex web of healthcare professionals who addressed the diverse medical needs essential to her survival. Ms. Bachner is now a Patient Partner on a project at Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA), funded by the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement, to implement bedside transfer of accountability. She also sits on the HPHA Patient Experience Steering and Working Committees. She describes her multifaceted medical experience as ‘mind-opening’ and is now contributing the knowledge and observations made during extensive hospital admissions as the patient voice on the Working Committees to build an increasingly effective healthcare system.
